Asscher cut diamond is one of the fancy shape cut together with princess, radiant, emerald, cushion, oval, marquise, pear, heart & trillion. Asscher cut was introduced by the company called Royal Asscher Diamond Co. in the year 1902. This shape is to give variation of the emerald cut. Though these two shapes belong to step cut group having a linear facets parallel to the girdle, an asscher cut is characterized by higher crown, narrower table and larger step facets delivering more brilliance than the emerald cut diamond.
A classic asscher cut diamond that rarely comes has squarish shape with length to width ratio of 1.00 and cut corners. Rectangular asscher cut, however, are always available in the market.
